Like soul sisters so are the mind and spirit
A while back I was invited to address a class at the National University of Lesotho (NUL) on the topic of Mental Health and Spirituality. As Basotho we have developed spiritual explanation for people with mental health problems. It could either be that the person has been cursed, is possessed by demons, their ancestors are trying to reach out to them or they have a calling. However, I was at NUL to talk about the role of spirituality in one’s mental health.
TEXT RETHABILE MATHEALIRA-MOLAPO
Spirituality to me is living a life of hope with a sense of purpose and being connected with a power greater than yourself. To me spirituality transcends all societies and cultures. People within the same spiritual community may have shared beliefs, but on an individual level still believe in their own way.
