A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles – Christopher Reeve. She had to give up on her career with Honors Degree in Project Management to look after her Autistic child.
“I used to cry my lungs out; I used to cry myself to sleep because of the cruelty and humiliation I received due to my son being on the spectrum. Even the closest relatives would spit the sharpest words about this condition but I used those piercing words to recharge my strength and purpose in life,” she remarked.
The Mohale’s Hoek born and raised mother and wife ‘Matsie Majoro, raises a child with Autism – a broad range of condition characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and non-verbal communication. Her 8-year-old son was diagnosed with autism in 2017, since then, he has a stream of professionals to assist him (Speech and Occupational therapists – ear, nose and throat doctor, Neurologist, child therapist) and he is still undergoing therapies. Just before December 2015, his son fell from the counter top in the kitchen and lost his speech – he still cannot talk but responds to a few instructions.
