When one falls pregnant, they are always given prenatal vitamins after a visit to the doctor or nurse. In most cases however, you may find that it is not well explained why a pregnant woman or one planning to fall pregnant should take these vitamins. This section will explain to moms-to-be why it’s important to take these essential nutrients in preparation for the nine months journey ahead.

It is every parent’s wish or dream to see their child succeed in life, a standard that could be achieved through attaining good quality education. However, few parents pay attention to their child’s educational progress at schools and whilst they are home. This is brought by the assumption that sending a child to an expensive school and paying lots of money is just good enough for a child to achieve greater results. The old tell-tale myth amongst Basotho women is that expecting mothers should take traditionally concocted medicines in order to protect their infants from skin conditions such as eczema (although they never really say such names). However, doctors and nurses advice against this practice saying that there is no scientific proof that these remedies are good for the health of the expectant mother as well as her unborn child. Keletso Nyareli, a first time mother to a son of nearly three years of age is one of the many mother whose children are perturbed by the wrath of eczema.

Most pregnant moms experience nausea and vomiting (morning sickness) in the early stages of their pregnancy and for some the symptoms may last for the whole journey of pregnancy. Even though the symptoms can be quite unpleasant and interfere with your day-to-day life, the good news is that it does not harm your unborn baby and it is actually a normal part of being pregnant.
